Welcome to the Lawyer Referral Service

The State Bar of South Dakota Lawyer Referral Service is a public service to help you find a qualified, local lawyer. Lawyers who participate in this program will give you a consultation. During your consultation, you will receive:

  • Guidance on the nature of your legal issue from a trained, friendly attorney;

  • Potential options available to you;

  • A discussion on the costs associated with hiring an attorney.

About Us

The State Bar of South Dakota has over 3,000 members and 1,800 active in-state members. Our members are leaders in their communities and participate in education and outreach activities for their state throughout the year - including civics instruction and mock trials in public schools, pro bono legal services (over 36,000 hours in 2017) through local clinics and Ask-A-Lawyer, and volunteering on a variety of non-profit organization board of directors and committees. We also partner with organizations and statewide agencies to ensure the delivery of legal services to all South Dakota citizens.
